Thoughts on Films of 2011

January 29, 2012 by supah

What is this madness? It’s almost the eve of February and here I am with another year-end review, right? Nah, let’s just call this a ‘collective film review’.

What a great year for Chungmuro! Bravo! It was filled with so many delights. I found myself striking gold subsequently with each flick that I casually picked. Even from those I least expected to deliver. Though to varying degrees, some were more magical than others, but of the ten I watched I was dissatisfied with absolutely none — which is quite amazing. Considering I’ve suffered for a handful of years now where the couple of films I did watch left a LOT to be desired. And what was with these posters, man? Coincidentally poor Kim Sae-ron was getting herself kidnapped in every single one of those (though I never watched them, so pardon the inaccuracies). But I digress.

Not to fret, I took a crash-course in how to write reviews sans spoilers, so go ahead and read. I might sound redundant and vague as a consequence of being spoiler-free though (aha, that sounds like a good excuse for sloppy writing!).

Will It Snow For Christmas?

June 27, 2011 by supah

[Calling all Go Soo and Han Ye-seul fans! No, wait, correction. Calling all Kim Soo-hyun fans! You won’t want to miss a new guest review by Supah where she sings the praises of your young and extremely hot idol. No, the review’s not of his recent drama about an arts high school but of the 2009 drama that made people sit up and take notice of him. Supah previously reviewed, with much loving attention, the 2010 epic outing with the one-word title, Giant, for Thundie’s Prattle. Hmm, Kim Soo-hyun also acted in Giant. I think I see a pattern here, Supah. Keke. Thanks for the review! --thundie]

Giant (SBS, 2010)

January 6, 2011 by supah

[I’m delighted to present to you a guest review of Giant by its biggest fan, supah. Some of you may know her from the Dramabeans Open Threads. I’m sure you will enjoy reading supah’s loving tribute to this epic drama as much as I did! -thundie]

Sorry it had to be me, folks. I’m just as gutted that we couldn’t have Ockoala coming back after her amazing, amazing mid-point review. But since no one else was up for it, I was not going to let Giant go without a wrap-up review. Guess this is far from being an epic review but what I will do, in this review, is try and pay justice to what was an absolute epic, ha!

Giant is one example of how a show of colossal magnitude can remain firmly grounded. There was a glowing warmth and tastefully instilled wit in the midst of the devastating human tragedies that shaped this tale of rags to riches, revenge and one man’s rise to power.
